I adore to view science fiction movies but I cringe – I cringe each time I see a depiction of the aliens. First of all the aliens speak fantastic English. Not just British English. They speak fantastic American English. And definitely they are a human inside some variety of monkey accommodate. I suggest we have Hollywood specific outcomes, correct. So why simply cannot we get improved aliens. And then the aliens believe just like us. They’re territorial. They want to conquer. They want means. They want – they see humans as inferior. But you see, that is only a byproduct of our evolution. Glimpse at other animals in the animal kingdom. Some animals are not territorial, okay. They really don’t have to conquer. We have other paradigms in the animal kingdom which are totally unique sort the way our brain is manufactured. But when we glimpse at aliens in the movies we’re mainly projecting our have consciousness in aliens. Our fears, our desires are projected and they are a mirror of who we are, not a mirror of who they actually are.
For instance, if we choose a glimpse at a bat or a pet, the dog’s brain is predominantly interested in smells. It’s swirling in a universe of smells even though a bat’s brain predominantly is concentrated on sonar, on detecting clicks and echoes. Exact same issue with the dolphin brain. Their consciousness is totally unique from our consciousness since they see things differently than us since of their evolutionary history. For instance when we see a cat and the cat arrives up to us and attempts to purr following to us, we say to ourselves, “Oh, great cat. The cat is staying affectionate.” No. The cat is not staying affectionate. It’s only rubbing his hormones on you and saying, “I have this human. This human is mine. I’m marking my territory. This human feeds me two times a day. I’ve trained him.”
So a cat sees the universe totally unique than we do and however we impose our imagining on an alien. Now on the problem of intelligence. If these aliens are extra clever than us, how would they be extra clever? In the book I say that one of the primary ingredients of intelligence is to predict the future. The capability to simulate now so we see tomorrow. And that involves a superior stage of intelligence to be able to recognize the regulations of character, the regulations of individuals. What is the most probably outcome of a future party. That involves intelligence. If they are extra clever than us they will see the future a lot improved than us. They will see outcomes that we can’t foresee. They will simulate scenarios that we can’t even aspiration of. They can outwit us each time.
Believe of a safecracker. A safecracker could have a minimal IQ, could have dropped out of elementary university. But the safecracker can simulate the future a lot improved than a cop can and that is why he can rob financial institutions and get away with it. And so in other words, the criminal brain is not always silly since it has minimal IQ. It’s rather effectively tailored for what it does. And what it does is to simulate the future of a criminal offense. Now believe about when we come across clever lifetime that is extra clever than us. They could see the world totally differently. Their world could be a world of smells, a world of sounds somewhat than a world of eyesight like our brain is manufactured. And most critical, they could be able to see the outcome of future functions a lot improved than us. They’ll be able to basically run circles all around us since they see the future.
