***UPDATE***
I desired to acquire a moment to reply to a minority of remarks on this online video. When the online video at present enjoys a ninety six+% like to dislike ratio, I have discovered a handful of remarks criticizing this online video for not showcasing pet dogs that are not canine helpful. For example one particular viewer writes:

“No authentic information below… you are exhibiting perfect scenarios even though you should be addressing authentic scenarios, aggressiveness is the issue when pet dogs satisfy… ”

Among the novices and intermediate trainers there is normally this concept that we want to wait around for difficulties to arise just before addressing them. Particularly in the place of dog socialization, the finest medication is prevention. If you hope to excel in knowing and modifying canine conduct there is one particular issue you want to fully grasp. Preparation and prevention are important to exhibiting a canine how to behave in our tradition. If much more men and women realized to acquire the advice I presented in this online video, then we would have less issues in this office. So to this viewer and other people who’ve echoed this sentiment, I would say that Definitely I am exhibiting perfect scenarios! Exhibiting your canine from working day one particular how to behave about pet dogs will prevent long term issues from arising substantially of the time.

As you know, I routinely deal with reactivity, nervous pet dogs and fearful pet dogs in my video clips all the time. A good deal of us undertake an older canine or less than socialize our pet dogs even though they are young and are remaining with the predicament of what to do when our pet dogs are older and are not really accepting of men and women and pet dogs. I’m absolutely sure I’ll deal with this much more in the long term on a circumstance by circumstance foundation. But which is just it, as soon as your canine has crossed into a sample of conduct that is most likely perilous to you, other men and women, or other animals, then we want to deal with that on an particular person foundation (as you have witnessed me do in quite a few video clips) and there is no wide brush stroke that will correct that.

The finest canine trainers do almost everything they can to display their pet dogs how to behave relatively than how NOT to behave. That’s not to say we just cannot “fix” pet dogs who have social issues, it is that this is a completely unique subject matter. The individual who just got a canine Ought to know the information. in this online video.

I absolutely do not want to discourage these significant of my lessons. This is one particular way that every person can master and improve. And the most important lessons I’ve uncovered in my vocation have occur instantly from you. I just felt that these critiques were coming from a spot that lacks experience and knowing of canine conduct which is why I desired to make clear my issue a little bit much more.

The purpose of this online video was to give men and women a standard concept as to how to make absolutely sure that their canine continues to be snug with new pet dogs shifting forward, and socialization can be a intricate issue. Obviously I simply cannot deal with each individual component of canine social conduct in a single lesson. This online video is for the regular individual with an regular canine. But I do pleasure myself on showcasing a range of scenarios and I’ll keep on to do that in the long term.

Thank you!

  16. Hello- our family just adopted a Jack Russell, mini pincher mix in December. Our daughter has wanted a dog for years and our landlord changed his mind to a yes. However, Bear is having an extremely difficult time getting around other dogs without barking. We’ve followed all your advice with much success except in this one area. Our daughter is growing very discouraged because she wants to take Bear on her walks and go to dog parks. Bear is now nearing 6months and our daughter is 14 in a couple days, we want both to be able to enjoy being outside together as well as inside.

    Please help!

  18. The only respect I have for this is the fact that comments are allowed. This is brutal. Socialize your dog by having it obedient in the presence of other people and other dogs. None of the dogs in this video have good social skills and are making the best of a bad situation by attempting to sniff each other awkwardly and offering again awkward play cues. They will never learn anything except that their owners will force them to “socialize” with strange dogs. They WILL become leash aggressive. Socialize your dogs by having OBEDIENT dogs. This is lazy, fur baby BS. He’s just cherry picking behaviours that are “cute” to the untrained eye as “awe, look at that, we all feel fuzzy here and here, so that’s good, keep it up”. How sad this video is when you wake up to what is really going on and what they are actually selling here besides dog food.

  22. Hi Zak! I as wondering if you could make a video on how to socialize your full grown dog to other dogs. My dog has only ever gotten along with one dog and the dog was bigger then her, older then her, and a boy. My family has tried to get another dog multiple times and it hasn't worked, but we have only tried with other female dogs. Please help me learn to socialize my dog!

  32. Zac I love the training tips you give… 👍🏻 my German Shepherd is just 3 now and a year ago we move to another place that had 3 other dogs that she was great with! They all had a wonderful time playing running and hanging out… until the other 3 got into a fight! My dog jumped in I got he to come away for a moment but she was back into it! The owners came and help break it up unfortunately one of the other dogs had its ear torn pretty bad.. I had the landlord put a fence up so that my dog wouldn’t have to be involved again… now she gets her hair up and barks and lunges… I’m not sure what to do from here… I had be working with her to be my service dog I don’t think I can even get her back to the beginning of training let alone to meet other dogs. Do you have any tips for me?

  38. I have an Amstaff named Bella she does good around other dogs the only red flag for me is that she is dominant. Once she gets comfortable around these other dogs Seems to me that she likes to challenge the other dog in wrestling them and pinning them down. Not once has she shown aggression I'm just scared it can turn into that. Any help???

  40. My Alaskan husky Radley can be a real sweat dog. He loves getting pets and meeting people. However, he acts extremely aggressive when around other dogs. Radley lives with another Siberian husky and they get along quite well. The problem happens when we go for walks. The dogs will walk together fine. "They are not very well used to walking human pace however." Whenever another dog is near. Radley gets realy nervous and dose things like jerk the leash bite the leash and when he gets to much anxiety he will bit our other dog who he normally gets along with. Other times he has been introduced to another dog there will be a sort smelling and then he snaps at the dog, barks and growls. I realy want to help Radley to get past his fear and be able to play at the dog park and everything dog like to do but I am afraid he will hurt someone. Any advice would be great. Thanks

  41. Hi, Zak! I have a four year old mutt. I've had her since she was seven months old, but she was a rescue from a hoarding situation. I don't know much about her life before me except that she was malnourished, had pneumonia, and was very skittish at first. Nowadays, she's very sweet and energetic and loving. She loves every human, and likes a lot of cats (even if they don't like her). The one problem we keep having is other dogs. It just recently became a problem because at my old house we were very secluded in the woods so she only ever met three either dogs she lived with. However, now, we live in an apartment where she has to go to the dog park. She's not violent, but anytime there's another dog she will get very nervous and try to ignore them. If they sniff her she'll freeze put her ears down and put her tail between her legs. I'm wondering how I can get her confidence up and help her to not be afraid of every other dog. I think it has something to do with her past in her old home, but I'm not sure. Thank you!
