  5. I have a rat terrier. He likes to go out the front door. He finds the environment while running around crazy in the neighborhood much more interesting than coming when called. There have been several near accidents.

We try to keep him from getting near the door. We have put up a second barrier before the door and yet it still has happened.
    Do you have any suggestions?

  8. 'Training Positive' says it all >>>
I've trained all my dogs with this technique. POSITIVE.
    1. Never call a dog and then reprimand them. Would you come if you knew you were going to be punished. No matter how you end up getting them say their name and the word 'come'…even if you have to go get them and carry them back.

    2. I have trained all my dogs successfully by using a harness (not a collar= trachea damage) along with a long rope to practice the 'Come' command.
I let them run and then when they reach the end of the rope…(I repeat their name and the word 'come' while pulling them toward me slowly).
When they reach arms length pat/pet them and PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE: Say:
Use the dog's name the word come. Example (Good dog/name come). Hearing their name and the word come together is the key, and
    3. CONSISTENCY is a must…. practice this for at least a couple of weeks; and a couple of times a day.
I have even used this technique on a older rescues.
Clickers cause anxiety. I promise you Positive Training is the way to go.
    Cudos to this man.
