  1. We have a crate from Midwest. It's doing extremely well. Just make sure you get the right size for your dog. Not your puppy, get the size that will need when your dog is full-grown.

In the video, they show the crate on a hardwood floor. I would put something under it like a small rug or mat so it doesn't scratch potentially.

  19. My brother and I are getting a puppy, he's basically mine but he will be with my brother while I'm at work. We don't want to crate train the puppy because we saw our aunt and uncle use it as a form of punishment. Do you think that we can use an exercising pen instead with the same affect? I really just need some advice!

  21. This was rather helpful! I've had dogs growing up, but never been around a puppy much before, since the first two dogs (a lab and boxer) were at least a year old before I was born and the third one (my westie) was a year and a half when we adopted him, but for Christmas my mom decided we should get an English setter for my dad for Christmas since that is what he had all growing up from when he was a young kid until he was moved out of the house and off to college, and we saw one when we went to a local barbecue and concert in a park and he was going nuts over it. Anyways, we got Sammy, our little pup for Christmas and potty training has been so hard since there's been snow on the ground for 90% of the time we've had him these last two months, even if we took him outside and waited until he went to do his business before bringing him inside… but sometimes it was just too cold and we thought he would get sick so we couldn't go out too long. And omg biting is so hard to break! Our vet told us to curl his lips into his teeth whenever he bit to try and kinda do a "tooth for a tooth" thing but it just made him want to bite us more so we didn't do it anymore. Crate training has been absolutely nutzo, but he's finally getting to the point where he can sleep in there for a few hours at a time before he wakes up and starts whining, but if we leave him alone, in a few minutes he will be out again. I've been in love with animals my whole life and have been wanting to be a dog trainer for most of it, so watching these tutorials is amazing. I used to love Caesar Millan, but I found Victoria Stilwell and she was my go-to for a long time, and now I've found these videos and they're just as great as hers are. Like I said, I used to love Millan, but his technique was not my favorite as I noticed he used more dominance than positive reinforcement and I like the positive reinforcement a lot more, even if sometimes it proves to be more time consuming at times.

  28. I have trained dogs before, and service dogs, but never had a serious biter/snapper. I recused a 3 month old Shepard. Doing all these things he still wants to bite hands. and he snaps too! He has learned to sit, lay, held, wait.. up and down…. in a month so I know he is smart, although his patience in staying in these are still short which is normal.. He is crate trained now when covered, although still acts up trying to let him out which we working on.. and is now 75% paper trained, and goes to door some too. Not wanting to do anything more yet with him cause of his age… but HE still bites aggressively, even in playing. grrrrr. He will not be used as a service dog if i can not stop this. He was not de-sensitized as a puppy, so working with him on this. I think someone was slapping at him for him to be so fussy at biting. He also barks and snaps mad when you correct him. Cute but not a good thing… Any other suggestions left to try? I am wondering if this could now be more of an obsession with this puppy and attitude issue other than just also a puppy training issue. Should I put a muzzle on him part time when not play time or training time to see if that curves habit obsession, if that's it i wonder. He hates to be picked up and bits aggressively also. Need to teach him its about love without being bit.. He socializes and likes people and other animals, just does not know how to act. jumps up to play and bites hard! I cant not train or have a service dog, one that is going to be really large bite. Please, any suggestions?

  33. I disagree with not letting your pup bite you. Just need to teach them to lightly bite. They will naturally outgrow it. And it teaches them not to bite vigorously

  34. You have lots of great advice but you do not do corrections at all. The puppy chewed on you most of the video! Even jumped up at you from the floor to bit at you… I think without corrections the dog believes its ok to do what its doing.
