  3. Wow, Eldo looks like a BIG boy, a very handsome dog. Is he near 100 lbs in weight? I'm a golden retriever guy, love them along with labs. My biggest 'boy' from years ago, a golden named Cedar, tipped the scales around 120 lbs, a real moose of a dog that could intimidate anyone or anything that saw him from afar. But he was also the gentlest, smartest, and most intuitive dog I've ever had. If only everyone could have the personality of a golden retriever…

  8. My grandfather had a golden retriever when he was in his 30s. Two to be exact. Both incredibly intelligent. He never trained them but it was like they understood him. One time they were out in the boat and one of the picks on the boat loosened from the rock and the boat started drifting "Biance, go get the boat for dad will ya" the dog jumped into the water, grabbed the pick in his mouth, turned the boat around 180 degrees (cus it had turned) and delivered the pick on the rock on his feet.

  11. I used to have a Golden Retriever, she lived until she was 13. Very funny & cute and intelligent. She was such a good dog, always doing funny things and doing tricks. But she got lazy and wouldn't walk with anyone except my dad and my mum. 😉 was such a good, happy dog.

  45. Just be patient. Usually, goldens are a bit unfocussed and mischievous until they turn 2 years old.

Whatever you do, don't ever hit him when his behavior displeases you. You can break his spirit. Just use the word "NO!" spoken with authority.

("No," is the most important word any dog needs to learn.)

Also, when he listens, be sure to praise (and hug) him to show him how much you love him when he listens.
