  2. I adopted a 6 year old chihuahua 10 days ago. First lesson- I ALWAYS exit & enter before the dog. It immediately established me as pack leader. Also, he cannot bolt from crate and he must sit in front of his food until I give permission to eat. Absolutely no begging. I walked him without a leash today (day 10) and he stays by my side or slightly behind. We have a great affectionate relationship too. I love the happy little guy. 💕

  5. How to train a dog to wait at doors: teach sit. teach wait. Ask wait. At doors, at the street, at the park….That's it.
Your dog is not dominant. Wolves dont enter first nothing, because in the wild there is no such thing as entering nowhere, but the burrow, if there is any. That door alpha stuff is just modern mithology.

  7. What's funny, is, you don't even have control of that dog. You are not a natural leader and therefor canno't claim that alphastatus which you desperately seek.

  10. Ummmm…. no. This is just using negative punishment to teach him (which is actually a good technique to use, although your execution of it is terrible) this is not teaching the dog by showing you are pack leader. The dominance hierarchy theory has been completely debunked, it is no longer considered relevant to dogs at all. It was never really scientifically proven in the first place, it has always been a theory. Did you go into the crate first to show him that it's "yours?" Of course not. I'm not usually one to judge… but you probably forced him in there in the first place.

  11. This is how we tech wolves in the UK, but I don't think it's necessary on a dog of that size.

  12. The American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) recommends that veterinarians not refer clients to trainers or behavior consultants who coach and advocate  dominance  hierarchy theory and the subsequent confrontational training that follows from it.

    • Instead, the AVSAB emphasizes  that animal training, behavior  prevention strategies, and behavior  modification programs  should

follow the scientifically based  guidelines of positive reinforcement, operant  conditioning, classical conditioning, desensitization, and counter conditioning.

    • The AVSAB recommends that veterinarians identify and refer clients only to trainers and behavior  consultants who understand
the principles of learning theory and who focus on reinforcing desirable  behaviors
and removing the reinforcement for undesirable behaviors.

  13. "in austria it is now illegal by law to use C.M s methodes"
You must be joking! How in the world can anyone codify a blanket restriction of training methods? Do they list all the gestures to be prohibited? or just the philosophy? how can this be enforced?

    Pffff!

I hope he gets banned i more countries because the biting rate has raised a lot in the countries he has been teaching..

  17. I see a dog that doesnt pay attention to your "stay" command and you are pushing the door in his face while saying "good boy". so not only does he not know what to do when you tell yhim stay, youre confusing him besides with praise that not clear what it is for.

  18. Wolf pack theories applied to dogs have been debunked. Also, those "pack" theories were based solely upon captive wolf packs which act entirely differently than true wolf packs in nature. The studies have been discounted.

  19. My dog knows I'm not a dog, therefore I will never be his pack leader. Dog behaviour studies have come a long way since the dominance myth was debunked!
